Finished Lasalle Brigade

Finished the last Chasseurs, Now at this scale you have to cheat, the facing colors on the front of the chest would probebly not be seeable this scale but it looks to good to not have it there.

This is the finished brigade, well almost, to be a complete brigade in the lasalle rules it would also need a battery, but that can be added later.

When I use them for other rules that use 1:20 scale it would be a brigade of 960.

Thats done, right now I'm finishing up a russian battery and russian greandiers.

Well they are finished, and I think they look good, I only need another chasseur regiment and the brigade is done.

These guys really stand out, light blue, whie and red. You can spot them across the table no problem.

Long time, no post

Sorry for the long pause in posting, it's becasue I actualy havn't done anything, I lost steam and havn't gotten it back, I have a unit of primed russian greandiers but so far the need to paint them havn't grabed me. The good news is that I havn't spent any more money of figs. the bad new is that have still don't have any money, why? Well instead of spending all my money on figs I now spend it on booze and bills, or booze isn't the right word, the word is, high end single malt whisky. Ok that was 5 words.
I had to pay bills for a course I tok, so that was 3000kr right out of the bank, AND I had long ago orderd stuff from Doug over at Battlefield terrain concepts. So that was another 1400kr out of the bank and I still havn't pick up the stuff I orderd.

So what can you expect the coming weeks? A big picture heavy update with all the stuff from BTC, I hope to have finished the russian grenadiers by then, the post will show a few 100 figs on the table from my Lasalle/CGII force.
I do have sevral more figs to paint, two units of french line infantry, another unit of russian greandiers, lots of artillery, and a unit of french chessurs.
I will try and paint them all before spending more money on figs.

So I hope to have a big post with in two weeks of figs and table.

PS. Take a look at my whisky blog over at Whiskynoob

The manliest troopers in the russian army

Pink is as everybody know so cool that only the toughest and manliest soldiers could wear it.
The troopers would be the envy of all who looked upon them.

Thise are the moscov dragoons, I was planing on doing the st. petersburg dragoons, but they needed yellow buttons and I was to lazy to paint them as yellow covers realy bad, so they got white buttons instead, probebly saved me 2 minutes of my life.

They deffenatly look better then the hussars simply because the uniforms were simpler.
It's a big 18 fig unit, and I need another one and I'm done with the russian cav.
Most horses are black(highlighted with dark grey) and a few chestnut brown.

Here they are out just walking there horses looking at the nice buds on the trees during spring.
Then SUDDENLY!!!

Some hussars charge them in the butt, oh noes!!
The two hardest parts of the paint job(well 3)
1. the gold on thier helments
2. getting the right shade of pink
3. getting the black horses to look good(at which I failed quite well at)

The dandy's

My favorite cav unit, if I were were to get my self a Napoleoinc uniform it would be the 7th hussars, it would probebly cost 20 grand to get it made.
I just wish I had done the unit justice, this unit looks more like the stuff I did a year and half ago, then what I've done lately with my infantry.

Anyway up next is a 18 fig unit of russian grenadiers, now this is ALOT simpler uniform, so hopefully it will look better.

Halfway there

Well not realy, but when doing big projects you kinda half to divde them into smaller parts.
I've now finished 4 out of 8 battalions on the french I need, now realy the Lasalle armybuilder says you only need 6 battalions, but the french will be the first attacker, so I need 8 battalions.
So I'm half finished, WITH french infantry. for the complete french force mabye 40%, for the total french and russian mabye as little 28%

Anyway to the pics, two french line and two french legere, all 4 are just reated as vetran infantry, I just like the look of the legere so I added two battalion, two other battalions yet to be painted are going to be in the all white french line uniform of 1806, and the last two as the same blue and white as "normal infantry"

All 4 units look prety good, the legere look a little better, but non look as good as my russians.

Like the massed effect

Lots of spikey bayonets

Leger and french forces

Ok, finished painting the Legere figs just now.
Now one thing I'm not sure about is the Voltigeurs.
The Steven Palatka ilustration in Napoleons fines, show them in busby.
Now AB doesn't make those, so I assued they feel the Voltigeurs used shakoes like the chessurs
So I painted them with the same color mix as the ones in the book, so the shako plume has the same color as the plume on the busby, and I'm not sure if thats right.
Now the dark blue means the black outlines and shadeing dosn't show up very well, but it's there.

Close up of Carabiners

And here's the French force so far.
Two line battalions, one legere, I'll start work on another leger battlion.
That togeather with the russians I have now done 128 figs out of the 670 figs I need(minus guns and gunners)

Anyway, on to the next battalion

Hard Days Work

Ok, today I based two guns, and painted another 24 figs, thats enough to finish up another french line battalion, and make two bases of french legere(man I love those guys)

Ok first up the gubs, one russian 12pdr and one french 8pdr, now the french artillerists ended up with a VERY dark blue, more like Union jackets then french uniform, this is becasue the bottle of paint didn't mix right and I got the super concentrated "sirrup"
Guns are fun to paint, it feels like you paint realy fast, because in the time it takes to paint one infantry figs, you get a nice big gun(if it even takes that long) Thats with alot of work on the barrale.

Now this is an artillery duel, ready set fire!!

Over to the legere, I realy like how they turned out, as you see the blue isn't as dark.
The greene on the sakoes, sholder straps ect. might be to dark, but it does give the "light/jeger/rifle" feel. I say they are almost as nice as my russiasn, just as dark green and white is nice, so is dark blue and white. Now when I finish the two legere battalions they will be my pride and joy of the french units, which ofcourse mean they will get wiped out in every game I ever play, so is the curse, if they ever see double six it will always be on the reciving end from the enemy, and they will always get snake eyes.

Here's the finished line battalion minus the baseing, thats two down two to do.

And this is the resault of todays work

Lasalle Plan

I got my bok of Lasalle rules today, I had not gotten the message it was hardcover, so it was a nice suprise.

Now that I got all the army builders it's easier to decide what to paint, I had just started to buy and paint regular line/musketeers infantery as I knew I as going to have to make alot of them.

As I'm duing conquest French and Russians the following units will be made.

6 French Vetrain infantry, (I'll paint two of them as legere, but they will have the same stats, it's just to get something els to paint. and it looks good)
1 Divisional Battery.
I'll then make one organic brigade, which will be light cav brigade, 2 hussars, 2 chessurs and a horse battery.

This is the first I'll work on, I'll then paint the two extra line battalions for the "attack bonous"

The russians will be 4 musketeers, 2 gernadiers 2 jegers, position battery, thats 8 infantry units,
As I'll had french cav I'll do the same to the russians, one organic brigade of dragoons, thats two big dragoon regiments, 1 cossack regimetn and a horse battery.
I'll then add the two extra infantry units for the "attack bonus"

This is about 650 figures, Now I have to just keep at it.
I decided not to do the extra prussian, british and austrian armies at first. I might buy an odd unit just to get to paint some redcoats of some nice landwehr,
But I'll concentrate on the forces I mentioned here.
When that Is done, I'll add more and more of the suport brigades, to get sevral options to choose from.

When I'm done with the BIG core armies and the extra brigade, doing the odd suport brigade of say 2 kurassir regiments and another battery isn't that much of a job.

Well thats the plan, even tho Lasalle don't deal with historic units, each unit will be based on a real Battalion/regiment just to keep track, and so I can use it for Carnage & Glory II

Kexholm Finished

Even with Colors,
Easly my best unit, no quiestion becuase of the simple(east to paint) unitforms and new faces
This will be the first of my lasalle units, 32 figs on 4 bases, 8 figures pr. 30x30mm bases, now this can only be done with AB, I've tried 8 figs on 30x30 bases with other brands, like fantasin and it just dosn't work the bases are to random or big or what not.
It's still slighlty crouded, but I think it REALY captures massed closed ranks of the napoleonic era.

The flag is a print out from warflag, the figures are AB, the bases are Litko with GW scenics and woodland scenics on them, Paint used is Coat d'Arms
(there time to sit back and wait for the money for all the sponsoring I've done now)
Anyway Enjoy the pics.

Russian WIP

My Plan was to finish the unit with baseing and all before I posted it, but I was so happy with the figs I just had to post them, only 1 more base to do, this will be my first Finished unit for Lasalle, (I have another one, but that was just a rebase)
I think even up close they look prety good, I also think I have nailed the faces.
The faces are a coat of dwarf flesh, then the eyes and mouth are just lighlty painted light brown, so the eye sockets are just sligtly darker then the rest.
The I ad light skin to the checks, chin and nose.
I'm very happy with them, but enough shameplass bragging, it's just a modest paint job, not a work of art like the best guys do, but I do think they will look good on the table and even if a player picks the figs up, well will tolarate scrutiny.

I just love the green white mix, just look so good.

See, I and by this I mean I think they look good up close, you might not, I know alot of people think 15mm should never be shown upclose like this, the photo highlights any inperfection.
But I think they take the handycap fearly well.
Anyway I'm realy happy with the 15mm figs I've painted of late, and these are clearly the best. Now I just need to paint 400 more of them
