Hello my old "friend"

So if you go to my labels and hit SYW and go to the oldest post. You'll see some war crimes.

The year was 2008 I had orderd a bunch of Old glory 15s SYW figures. In my attempt to do Miden with Might and reason.

I decided to spray paint my french white and simply paint on the flesh, facings, musket tricorne and shoes. It was horrible.... The horror the horror!

Anyway I still have a couple of blisters and thought well 15mm, don't do much that anymore.
I do want to do a grand tactical game and have toyed with 6mm Napoleonic Blücher project.
But I have these figures. And the blue moon figures look niceish..

So I painted up those Hanoverians I got my hand of, the blister hand broken and so I had to dig into my "rote eske" I suck my self on sharp figure. old wire spears, but I got enough to make a 24 figure brigade.

Lets just say the figures show their age, sculpts are crude and strange poses. And I'm no loger a 15mm painter so well the resault is.... Odd! On the up side the faces where better then I would have thought. I had no problems doing a 3 shade job on the faces.

I will work with Minden and Villenhousen OOB to make lots of units.

This is the Hanoverian Guard brigade, brigaded with the British
I also found a blister of British artillery and french infantry.
I

've gone through the french blister and by "cheating" using a hanoverian standard barer) I can get 2 units out of the blister.
I've painted the first 6 figures of french and I must say the french figures are better then the hanoverians. if it wasn't for the odd gaiters the figures would actualy be very nice.
The vest, the jacket, face musket ect are all very nice even the leather straps are better.

Another day, another project.

So I was stupid enough to look at some pictrues of legio heroica crusader range.
So had to buy and paint some. I honestly don't know if I would ever actualy game it, the few battles I've read about seems kinda boring. Very few set piece battles ect. But I do like the look of them standing here. So I had to paint them.

24 English crusader sergants. as you see both shields and banner is hand painted by my very unsteady hands.

Colorful people, The figures are fantastic, and I do not do them justice, I've looked at some of the work people do with legio heroica, and it's art.  I have tried to imitate their style, but I failed.

So not sure if I want to game this period, but I did like painting it so far. But then again, I don't get to game the periods I do want to game. so in the end, does it really mater?

The Vikings Part Deux!

So did another two bases, and it's starting to look like an unit, but still two more bases to be done.
I did one of the 3rd and 4th rank bases, made to be on the flank, so gave it a few archers. Also did the center command base. With a big chief in red beard and hair, he looks important because, he got both mail, and lamellar armor, and he got purple tunic(purple is "big boss collor" for all my viking in any scale. Next to him is his son, another bad as motherfucker, with a splinterd shield.  It's still too narrow for a shield wall, looks more like a shield block. So two more bases.

Also I forgot to mention last post, that they are not in a real shield wall, they are not close enough, I did this for two reasons. 1 I had theise bases, and didn't want to by others. and it lets you see more of the figures, not just spear points and shields.
This picture is cropped as some very rude sweeds tried to photo bomb it.
All hail, the Chief or Jarl or what ever he is, I guess gingers were not as prosecuted back then.

Here you can see the archers on the back row.

Going Viking

Tiny Vikings, well not super tiny, just tiny, 15mm peter pig vikings.

I want to do medievals, and this is as close I get, all other medievals are kinda not my thing.
Each base has 8 figures, each unit will be 6 bases, so 48 figures in four ranks. I've decided to follow the standard "style" less armord in the two last ranks, more armord in the first. So the back rank will be mostly axemen, and spearmen, with a few archers sprinkeld in on the flanks, while the front, will be armord dane axes, swords and spears. I decided to do theise simpler, for sevral reasons, while the unarmord do have lots of clothing to shade and highlight, the ones in armor don't so instead of 3-4 layers(like my marines got) they have a simple two layer style. I think it work with these type of figures. the mail is dry brushed on. Also instead of 3-4 colors of skin, they only get 1, and thats because the faces are coverd with helmets and beards, so not much skin to work with at all. the leather shoes and bindings do get two shades, like leather scabard ect.

I like the look, I would not do it on bigger figers, or other style figures, my marines will still get their 3-4 layers. but for theise, were the shild take up lots of room ect. I think it works. I did the metal in a single color, also to keep with the style of simplisity. I did them colorfull, lots of bright blue, red and green, some natural wool, and the shields, got greens, blacks, yellows, reds and blues. Beards and hair are blond, brown or red(ginger)
I also got my girlfriend to "fix" my camera, higher aperture so less out of focus vikings and figures

This is who they shold look, the ligher armourd figures behind, heavies forward. I got enough figures for 3 more units, after this one is done.

Mini Marines

So I wanted to paint some 15mm again, but needed an excuse, so since I base my 28mm for skirmish gaming, I thought 15mm would be great for blitzkreig commander. These are peter pig, great figures, tho not a fan of the faces. So first mission is to build a platoon, Thats 3 squads and HQ squad.

Given the standard rule of the smaller figures lighter color, I use the same colors for the 28mm, but dropping the darkest shade of brown violet, instead the shade is not russian uniform, with mid color beeing green grey, and the stone grey beeing the lightest. So less of the dark and more of the stone grey(that I use just a tiny bit of on the 28mm) Also the rifles get two shades of wood, instead of 3, the metal is gunmetal color instead of black, to make the barrles more visible.

The faces get 3 colors instead of 5, other then that it's the same, boots get 2 colors, as in the 28mm, same with webbing ect.
I like these, they look alot like the 28mm only smaller.
I decided to do rather big bases, showing them abit spread out. I did the bases kinda like pelulu, lots of stone/coral, with some rocks and very little vegetation.

I'll try and do a theme on each base, here they are all fireing/giving cover in the next they will be moving.

A line of grey and butternutt clad troops

I'm watching a documantary about the ACW, I've watched in a dozen times, nobody in the states know about it, was a low budget thing made in the early 90s or late 80s, it's not as "fancy" as Ken Burns film, it's mostly talking heads, a narator and lots and lots of video of huge reeacmetns, and the reenactments are from those battles they talk about, so you kinda feel you are watching that battle.

Anyway Simple yet great, I like it better the Ken Burns film. But i like that fact that you can sum up an ACW army on the colors, sevral times you hear the narator says. A endless line of blue lines, or a massive force of grey and butternut clad troops ect.
A 20 man regiment, I have enough figures for two more regiments, I'll try and aim low on this project, 7 regiments pr side, 1 unit of cav for each and 1 battery for each.
I like the figures, and I like my own pain job, I like the officer, amazing how just yellow cufs help bring out some color.

They are all painted with either butternut triad or rebel grey triad, musket stock triad, all from foundry. also sliver baynets, and musket bands, the barrle is panzer grey(as the barrles or the Enfield was black)

Long time no see

Well this has been a long time, last Napoleonics I've posted here was in September last year, and my last 15mm Napoleonics in MAY!!! last year, so it's almost a year since I've painted 15mm Napoleonics.

I've had these Blue moon figres laying around since then, done alot since then, and I almost didn't paint anyting the last 6 months of last year.
As you see these are 1805 period french, the figures are good, but I've noticed something, they do not photograph well, in real life, they look good, because they have extravant features that make them look right in your hands even on close inspection, but the high pixel camera just picks up every bump in the figures, and they look disformed and ugly. so I had to scale down the pictures, at the full 1600x1200, they were but ugly, which was a shock as they looked really good in my hands, espeacly the face.

I have decided to up the lightness of the blue slightly, they still look like french blue coats, but you get a bit more pop to the color.
It was fun painting 15mm Napoleonics agian, it was my first love in wargaming, and I do have sevral hundred of them, and I only need a few more and I can actualy game with them.

Bluecoats

So I got some blue moon ACW, they are very good, I had started on some BH ACW, but they are no were near as good at these.
Lots of little details, like som have coffey cups on thier napsacks, diffrent styles of bears and facial hair. I like the colors I've used here, 3 colors on the trousers, 3 colors on the coat.

3 colors on the musket to,

This is gonna be a 27 strong unit.

More green Imperial

Did the pike block, it's tight packed 16 15mm figures on a 40mm square.
4 Command figures and 12 pikemen, a mix of full armor and half armor.
The command was very quick to do, but the pikemen was alot fo work, first the uniform, then the armor, both take quite a long time to do. There is also quite alot of leather, gloves, vest and belts.
I read that imperial sashes were often white, so my command got that.

My entire HUGE force of 15mm pike and shot figures.
