Mounted Samurai

 First half of the mounted samurai is done. My mounted units will be  mounted smaurai with foot retainers.

Again for my Masakage division no two are completly the same.

The finished unit will be 13 mounted and 5 foot.

 The unit has a mix of nigata, yari(most have yari) and katana.

 I like the sea of sashimo.

It was very bright out side today, lovely weather. But had to dial the light down alot in photoshop.

First Sengoku unit done

 Well it's been a while, Me and the Fiance got struck down with cold from hell, hit her the most. I'm mostly weak and got two major migrine days. While she got hit very had, she got it a week before I got it, And now shes on Antiboitics because she started to get pneumonia.

So not alot painting, most days I didn't have the strength, and other days we just had to relax. but I finnaly finished my Yari Ashigaru. 24 nice Ashigaru unit. I also had a birthday and got a nice new mobile from my fiance(mine was half dead) she also gave me some hicking trousers, and my inlaws gave me enough money to get some new shoes.(plus enough for a steak dinner) But I did get alot of money from my parents to, most went to grown up stuff. But did spend enough to get enough figures to finish Yamagata Masakage division,  It will be 3 yari ashigaru, 1 bow ashigaru, small teppo ashigaru, 1 katana samurai, and 1 mounted samurai.


I like this unit, it's colorfull no two figures are exactly the same.
Only thing I don't like is that with 4 bases, the command base is not exactly in the middle!! I like my flags/banners command in the center. With with banner it's ok, I can make it so it's almost in the middle.

 The armors are mostly black and red, with some browns now and then, these are aperantly the most commen colors(with black being the most common of those again)

 Command base is 2 banners, 1 offcier, and cone snail trumpeter.

I'm happy with theise, I'm also happy that this is the 3rd unit I've finished in "a short while) The first was late fall with my medieval spearmen, then the mounted men at arms and now this one.

I also like that all 3 of these were "big" units, both infantry are 24 and the cav was 12.

More Sengoku

 Did 4 more Samurai, So far the unit looks quite good.  I like the guy in the middle of the second base, The perry samurai do not have "chest plate lace" alot of samurais did have lace covering the whole chest plate, so I simply have to paint the lace on, even if there is no lace texture there.

 I also did a base of ashigaru I choose not to do them as uniform unit, one of my divisions will be more uniform, but most ashigaru will not be uniform. Red and black will be the most commen metal colors. with just the lace beeing diffrent. But I will add some brown armor to.

They have the nagae Yari, which looks so much better on the ashigaru then the shorter yaries.

I started work on two more bases, the command base and another regular one.  The command base has changed a little in how I thought it would be. First I thought of having 2 big sashimonoes, then for got about that, now I'm back at two. I also thought about maknig it pure command. But I feel it looks weird with lots of long spears then a gap with no spears for the command base. So the current planed makeup is 2 big sashimonoes, shell blower, officer and 2 regular spear.

As you see this unit will be part of Yamagata Masakage force.
I gave the officer regular short Yari, I think he would only need to to direct troops and the short yari is more of a "fecing" spear. He problebly has skill to go more close querter of need be.

Na na na na na na na na... SAMURAI!

 So I started to play Shogun 2 again, so naturaly I had to paint samurai. I orderd a unit of ashigaru, but lukely I found a pack and  a half of samurai with yari. I still suck at painting the sashimon.

I also had 4 hours on the bus yesterday and made some megalomaniac planes for my Takeda force. In total it would have 11 ashigaru units, 5 foot samurai, 5 mounted samurai, 1 shoei, and 2 skrimish units. total some 684ish figures. Never going to happen, but it was something I dreamed about on the bus.

 First of 4 bases, all units will be 24 figures(if I ever finish one) No armor is the same on theise samurai. One of my "divisons" will be under Yamagata Masakage, so that division will all have red armor.

 Some of theise look ok, others no so much, I have great problems with actualy getting the lacing right, I found the details on the lacing very shallow and hard to pic up

Still for a distance they look good.

Perry Samurai

 So since the WGF foot samurai are apperantly sucky I decided to use perry metals for foot samurai.

So here cames a short comparisment between perry metal and WGF plastic.

Most people would say the perrys are face superiour, but I have to say, it's not 100%

 The plastics actualy got better detail on some stuff. like the lace on the plates, much easier to pick out and paint on the plastics, on the metal I kinda felt like I was blind. The back banners in the plastics are cooler, more folds look more realistic.

On the other hand, the armor is much cooler on the perry figures, and the poses are much cooler to.

 I did them all in uniqe armor and colors.

For some reason they don't look that good up close. the faces suck I just couldn't get them right.

Even more samurai

 So did two more samurai, one is in very drark green armor, and the other a mix of brick red and black.

With 4 bases, this would be about 300 strong unit.

 I still think the horses are kinda odd, hard to shade and highlight. kinda hard picking out the details.

More Samurai

 Finished 4 more samurai, 3 in black and 1 in brown armor.

WGF Ashigaru and Samurai

So this is a mixed bag, I got the ashigaru first, and man are those in lots of pieces. I get it gives lots of options, but it also makes them complex to put togeather. and quite frankly my first attempt wasn't that good, lots of spaces between the parts ect. hell I even glued the damn swords wrong side up, and didn't notice it until I was gonna paint them.

But they paint up ok, samurai/ashigaru are never easy to paint.

 The mounted samurai on the other hand were much better, so much easier to glue togeather. I don't like the horses tho, the got some odd shapes and the heads are odd. I've decided not to do the cav in uniform armor, this is not the red devils, most will be black with some red guys in there, this apears to be the two most common armor colors.

 These are all takeda since it's the easiet banner to paint free hand.

Giant Ashigaru

So I got some Perry ashigaru, I got a little bored with just painting the 15mm versions, I wanted to get a little more detail.


So these might be a little colorfull to be ashigaru, the armor is a little alaborate


I did these mostly for painting, but I did decided to just base them for killer katanas 2, with one modification, instead of 4 figures pr base I did with just 2 pr. base Basicly halfing the price of a unit. That does mean units are a little small, small units are just 8 figures, while mediums are 12


I gave them light blue lacings, with a mix of red laqard and black laqard armor.


The cloth under the armor is one of three colors, grey, green or brown. I only did 2 layers on these, since there is so little cloth showing, I don't think they need anymore then 2.

Finished Ronin and Sanada WIP

So I finished my ronin, a nice looking unit, nothing that good about it, but ok.

This would be about 600 ronin,

I like this red dude,

I'm now also almost done with my Takeda Shingen force, I only need to finish the ashigaru unit and General/bodyguard, this will be the forces under the direct command of Shingen, it will be about 4600 Troops.

The next "division" is that of Sanada Yukitaka, It will be somewhat smaller, it will have a big unit of 1800 shigaru, a smaler unit of ashigaru, one unit of samurai, one unit of teppo armed ashigaru and one with bows., in other words very close to the one under Shingen exept for the cav, As Shingen will have about 600 mounted samurai.

The first unit I'm making is the teppo armed ashigaru, this will be a standard smalish unit of 16 figures or 600 ashigaru, It was nice getting to paint a diffrent banner, tho this banner is also kinda hard to paint, even tho it sounds simple, just 6 black dots on a red banner, but getting the dots to be right is not easy.

This is my forces so far. This would be 4800 soldiers.
